ASSOCIATION AAEP mourns the passing of Dr. Chris House
The AAEP in late November learned of the passing of former BEVA President Dr. Chris House. Although he was not an AAEP member, Dr. House served as BEVA president in 2009, coinciding with the AAEP presidency of Dr. Harry Werner. The two equine welfare advocates were pivotal to the creation of the International Forum for Working Equids (IFWE).

After several years of support from BEVA and AAEP, the IFWE was taken over by The Donkey Sanctuary and eventually ran its course. However, the initiative planted the seed for the importance of a federation of interested parties for the welfare of working equids. Today, with The Donkey Sanctuary and World Horse Welfare as the primary players, the International Coalition for Working Equids is going strong, which, according to Dr. Werner, “is a wonderful and enduring legacy for these long underserved animals and a tribute to Chris’ noble vision.”
