Conclusions
This review summarises the importance of inflammatory and fibrotic processes in the healing of tendon injuries. Preventing the development of chronic inflammation holds the key to promoting improved repair of tendon tissue. It is prudent to treat with a short course of anti-inflammatory drugs in the acute phase after injury. However, prolonged use of COX-2 selective NSAIDs should be avoided in equine cases with tendinopathy.
