Foundation gifts exceed $97,000
Combined proceeds from the AAEP Foundation Benefit Golf Tournament, silent auction, special gifts and the inaugural Collegiate Challenge—won by Texas A&M University—raised more than $97,000 for the Foundation’s mission to improve the welfare of the horse.
Texas A&M University doctoral candidate Dr. Canaan Whitfield, center, received the 2016 AAEP Foundation Past Presidents’ Research Fellow for his research examining the role of equine gastrointestinal microbiota and their metabolites in non-steroidal anti- inflammatory enteropathy, Clostridium difficile-associ- ated enterocolitis, and intestinal anastomotic leakage. He received the award from 2016 AAEP Foundation Chairman Dr. Jeff Berk and 2016 AAEP President Dr. Kathleen Anderson. Visit the News Room at www.

EQUUS Foundation Research Fellow to equine endocrinologist
Ohio State University doctoral candidate Dr. Katarzyna Dembek received the 2016 EQUUS Foundation Research Fellow for her research into how the dynamics of hypo- thalamic, pituitary, and adrenal hormones relate to severi- ty of disease and mortality in newborn foals.
