Longtime educator, mentor Dr. Ben Martin dies at 68
Dr. Ben Martin, longtime equine sports medicine specialist at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and enthusiastic mentor to many veterinary students, died March 18 following a long illness. He was 68.

Dr. Martin received his veterinary degree from UPenn
in 1980. After completing a rotating internship and a large animal surgery residency, he became board certified in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
During his distinguished career at Penn Vet’s New Bolton Center, Dr. Martin served as director of the Jeffords High Speed Treadmill facility and the Equine Performance clinic. He was a member of the school’s admissions committee for more than 20 years and served as AAEP student chapter advisor from 2012 until his retirement from the faculty as associate professor of equine sports medicine in July 2014.
