5. Conclusion
Veterinarians can protect the health and welfare of horses living at rescue centers by identifying good res- cues in their area, working with those rescues to insure that their horses receive proper care, and assisting law enforcement officers who receive complaints about rescue organizations. By doing this, veterinarians can prevent equine suffering at
the hands of poorly run or overwhelmed rescue organizations.
